Meet Wendy!

I seriously had to wipe the slate clean and start again!  After 4 years of blogging, so much information was out of date - it's quite a shock to see how things have changed in my life!

Where do I start?

My name is Wendy and as you may already know I am crazy about animals and the ocean! I live on a small peninsula, with 2 beautiful long beaches either side - this is where I like to spend most of my time - when it is not raining!!  You see.... I live in Ireland and it rains here - pretty much all of the time!

I got married in 2004 to the most wonderful, crazy, young at heart guy ever!  He may be 10 years older than me, but we both behave like big kids most of the time!  Our eyes met over a kayak paddle - yes, really - as we are both kayak coaches and spend time volunteering our coaching skills to a local youth group.  I have known him since 1997 and every day feel blessed to have him in my life!  I am stepmum to 3 boys (grown men!) and grandma to 9 little ones!

In August of this year (2016), I will officially retire from teaching early - due to ill-health.  I finally worked out that Crohn's Disease and teaching do not mesh well together!  I graduated in 1987, after 4 years at University and have been in the teaching profession, in many roles since then.  I had a small break from working in this country, spending 10 years teaching in England, Scotland and Germany - experiences I wouldn't change for the world!

I began my teaching career as a 5th grade teacher, spent the majority of my time as a 1st grade teacher and had just moved to 2nd when my health took a serious downturn.
Over the years I have gained extra certifications in various areas as my curiosity leads me down many different paths! My first Diploma was for Teaching English as a Second Language and my last, a Certificate of Competence in Educational Testing, as my real passion lies in the area of Special Educational Needs.  I managed this department in my school alongside my regular teaching job, for 10 years.

I love all things technology and it was whilst creating the school website that I came across an image on Pinterest, which in turn led me to TpT - my new passion began here!  I opened a store and as they say the rest is history!  Now that I am no longer teaching, developing curriculum resources has become my full-time job and I love it!  I feel so lucky to be using my love of technology to create educational resources and at the same time exploring my own creativity.  I am in my element - all my loves at once!  I just have to remember to take breaks, stretch my legs and visit the real world from time to time!

I feel so fortunate to be able to stay connected to the educational world through this channel and hope I will be involved in the TpT community for many years to come.  The beginning was such a steep learning curve as so many things were different, not least, the language! However, I have studied the Common Core Standards extensively and create all my resources in American English.  More recently, I began to convert these to British English, as UK teachers were beginning to discover the TpT website.

I now have 2 stores on TpT!  My first and main store carries curriculum resources, mostly geared towards 1st grade, for US teachers.  My second store began as a hobby - graphics - and now also carries my resources for UK teachers.

  5. Thank you so much for the invitation Heidi. It's definitely something I will consider. I am about to start treatment for an illness, so perhaps won't be around as much. However, once I'm up on my feet, I'll check it out!
    Thank for stopping by!

  9. I'm so glad to have found you! Your photos bring back some delightful memories... my husband and I traveled to Northern Ireland a few years ago to visit his late father's birthplace and some of his family. We stayed with them in Dromore in County Down, and spent some time touring the north coast. What a beautiful country! I'm your newest follower! :)

  11. I came across your blog during the New Year's blog hop - and I'm so glad I did! I did my second student teaching placement in the United Kingdom, and when I saw the ".co.uk" at the end of your blog URL I just had to stop and say hi (although Ireland isn't part of the UK, oops)! Happy New Year from "across the pond!"
